Our Services

HealthTech is designed to prepare persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities for competitive employment and explore entrepreneurial opportunities in a variety of industries with the goal of community inclusion. We provide a training program that seeks to maximize the functional vocational skills of program participants.

As we support and build relationships with the poeple we serve, we get to know more about them. We also have the opportunities to understand what they value.

This knowledge can help us support them as they make plans that will aid them in getting closer to a level of indenpendence or gaining full independence.

People with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities have as much interest in choice and control in decision making as any other person.

Community Inclusion

HealthTech is a community-based day program consistent with the Home and Community Based Setting Requirements (HCBS) regulations, 29 DCMR & 1938, and the federal HCBS Setting Rule. We support persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, while realizing community inclusion and preparing individuals for competitive employment in a variety of industries, promoting optimal health and safety for each person served.

Our Mission

HealthTech’s mission is to support persons with disabilities in recognizing and developing employment and life skills through training with emphasis on health and safety while ensuring general wellness; to help utilize the acquired skills to obtain and maintain employment while becoming productive and successful in their lives and in their communities.

Our vision is rooted in the belief that persons with disabilities are valued citizens in our society and must be supported to realize their rights while exercising choice.

HealthTech ensures that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities:

Can exercise their right to personal liberty, dignity, respect, and privacy.

Are supported with the most proactive, least restrictive, and effective interventions

Can exercise their right to freely make and express choices through verbal, nonverbal, and behavioral means; and that their right to voice complaints, concerns and suggestions without interference or fear of reprisal is protected

Are free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Are provided with the least restrictive living conditions possible. This standard shall apply to the use of free time, movement, privacy, opportunities to engage in interpersonal relationships, staffing support, employment, and access to community resources.

Are taught functional skills that help them learn how to effectively utilize their environment and how to make choices necessary for daily living.

HealthTech will use the format of CPAQ (Community Participation Planning Assessment):

HealthTech will utilize The CPAQ (Community Participation Planning Assessment) process to assess a person’s need to have the most independence and control over their lives through the following focus areas: Community Membership; Relationships & Natural Supports; Career Exploration & Employment; Retirement (for persons 61 or older); Community Contribution; Self Determination; Community Navigation; Wellness/Fitness while paying attention to safety and, health age group among others. We are equipped, experienced, tested, and ready to support the people in our community.

Right to Liberty, Dignity, Respect & Privacy

At HealthTech, all persons are afforded full rights as citizens and as recipients of program services in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations of the Government of the District of Columbia and the United States of America. Persons with intellectual disabilities who would benefit from psychiatric and behavioral support interventions are supported with the most proactive, least restrictive, and effective interventions.

HealthTech recognizes that persons quality of life includes:

Developing a more meaningful schedule of activities.

Obtaining a suitable work situation.

Obtaining a more suitable home environment.

Developing relationships with other people.

Providing more opportunities to engage in preferred activities.

Eliminating barriers that prevent a person from accessing friends and family.

Modifying supports so the person may experience or develop greater independence with daily activities, among others.
